Un-Clutter It Thursday #10 - Welcome to the Party!

It's here, it's here!!!! I'm dancing around my office as I type this post because I'm so excited to be partying with you for the first time today! Welcome to the first Un-Clutter It Thursday Par-tay people!

For the month of March I figured I would focus on our family room. Our family room measures 12.6 x 11.5... tiny room right... its so important for storage to be efficient and non-chaotic, if that makes sense. Because I don't want the space to feel cluttered I try to find storage that can integrate right into the decor. For instance, the DVDs were being stored in the dining hutch...

Not only was it a waste of space it was also becoming a chore to locate a DVD, there were just about 150 movies in there to shift through. Uh...huh. No thank you!

I thought about using one these puppies... but YUCK!

So... I got four of these items...

And a pack of these.
Amazon
Before I loaded all the movies in their new home, I made a spreadsheet of all the DVD title (in alphabetical order, of course) and respective category. The list is kept in the drawer of our media dresser, in a sheet protector.

With just these few items I was able to turn this:

Into this:

Can you believe all the DVDs fit into these four binders?!

Love it! Annnd it's integrated right into the decor.

Oh but wait, what's that box next to the binders?

Looks like a vintage storage box with original pull handle... that's the giveaway. It will be filled with great accessories to help someone organize and unclutter!

Now its your turn. What did you tackle this week?

For March, I'm going to be un-cluttering the family room... starting this week with our DVD collection. Right now, they're occupying a drawer in the built-in hutch in our dining room. To help you understand the need to handle this NOW... each stack that is face up has eight dvd's... there are 15 stacks, not including the ones in the front on their side. Aaaaaannnnnd, that's not even all of them, Mr. Uncluttered has his Sci-Fi in his man cave.

That's all for now... see ya at the party!

Psst... I heard the giveaway has something to do with organizing tools and vintagey stuff.

Project Slipcover

Hello, hello people! How's it hangin'? After some impromptu garage saleing, I've been elbow-deep in a slipcovering project. I'm taking a breather to scream and chil-lax, before I murder myself for attempting this project. I'm also taking this time to give you a teaser. ;)

Not too long ago I told my mom I was looking for Parsons chairs for the dining room. Well, she was passing by a garage sale on a Sunday afternoon around 3:30PM and saw four Parsons chairs. Being the loving mother she is, she called and told me about them, they were asking $40. At once, I thought... "It's Sunday, late afternoon, and they still have chairs I sure they don't want to take back in the house... will they take $30 for all four?" "Yes!" Scizz-ore! "Wait Iesha, they are red." "I don't care, I'll slipcover them. How hard could it be?" Huh? Did I just say that? See, it's that last statement that got me into to this whole mess!

These are the four chairs.

I've been elbows deep in fabric since 4:00PM Saturday afternoon and let me tell you, it ain't that easy! For someone who's a pro at sewing I'm sure this would be simple, but it's my first time and let's just say the seam ripper has been a close friend. Ugh! Oh well... this is where I'm at. (You can see the corner of the sewing machine, by the lamp, in my office.)

As I was taking a break in the family room, I took this photo and thought of my Pinterest board and all the pleated slipcovers I have pinned. (Note all the dark mahogany board and batten. I love it, but it sucks the all the light in the room, so this is the being of a plan to bring in lighter elements.)

So now I'm going to attempt a pleated skirt...

Pray for me... I'm going back in!
Till next time.

P. S. Don't forget about the first Un-Clutter It Thursday Linky Party going live 5AM PST this Thursday morning.

Frugal Find Of The Century... I Mean Weekend

Hey there! How's the weekend treating ya? Saturday, when I arrived at a client's house I realized her next door neighbor was having a garage sale... hello! Of course, I had to walk over to check it out. I mean, isn't there some law against passing up a garage sale without paying visit? I swear I heard they just passed it... at least here in Cali! Well, I'm so glad I didn't break the law, on this day at least, because I walked away with a stinkin' awesome find!

Here's how the conversation went after I had already bought my $3.00 find, which I'll show on a later post, a was about to walk away...

Me: How much is the jug?

Homeowner: Oh, I don't know. I haven't thought about. Granny, what do you think?

   Granny: Hmm... good question.

   Homeowner: Umm, I guess $5.00

   Me: WHAT!!! $5.00!!!

Homeowner: I guess $5.00 is a good price.

Me: (Clearing throat and regaining my nonchalantness) It's a great price. (Smile) I'll take it. (Now picture me skipping as I carry my jug away)

I was completely not looking for a jug, but at $5.00 I would be crazy to have passed it up. Would you pass this jug up for $5.00?

A five gallon crock jug! Now do you see the reason for the reason for the temporary loss of composure?

Do you realize how expensive these jugs are in an antique store? No? Well, try $100 or more! Which is probably why I was not looking for one.

Also, these pictures are given you a sneak peek of my latest project. Stay tuned, I'll be more posting later.

Till next time.
