A Saturday Sighting

Hey you! Popping in to share a sighting with you. Totally random and not organizing/decor related at all.

If you've been hanging out with me for any length of time, you know that I go back and forth about living in California. There are some great perks to living here, such as the weather... bea-u-ti-ful most of the year. (Not right now though.) I also happen to live in the central valley, which means at certain times of the year, if I drive five hours in either direction, I have a choice of vacationing in the snow or at beach. Some pretty sweet perks, right?!

However there are some drawbacks. Such as the cost of living, one of the highest in the nation. And speaking of the cost of living, the price of gas is pretty high. That price can hurt especially since we have to drive at least 25 minutes out of town to do any major shopping and we drive an SUV. Well, while getting gas at the cheapest station in town I noticed something I just had to snap a picture of.

Notice anything out of place?

Hmm... should I be comforted by the fact that the owner knows, as I'm filling up my gas-sucking SUV, I feel like I'm sawing off two of my appendages? Wait, let me ponder this a moment...(Queuing Jeopardy music.)

Nope, no comfort received, but me and the hubby did get a laugh.

Till next time...

Un-Clutter It Thursday #13 - Photo Organization

Hello all! Welcome to another round of Un-Clutter It Thursday!

The last time we got together I showed you my mess of photos. Remember this fright? SCARY!

But I dove in head first and tackled it. I sorted through each and every single photo. I had 31 categories total.

The photo boxes that I got from Hobby Lobby didn't come with enough dividers so I used manilla folders to make more.

I chose coordinated scrapbook paper to cover the dividers.

Then it was time to load up the boxes. Mind you, each box holds up to 1000 photos and I have two boxes.

I'm so happy to have this project behind me! There were times that I just wanted to give up! But... the next time someone visits and asks to see photos I can proudly go to my bookcase and say, "Here you go!"

While I was at it I also organized a few "quick-grab" photo albums, currently being corralled in a vintage box.

To be honest with you, this particular project is not for the faint of heart. So if photo organization is on your to-do list, take my advice, give yourself some time and tackle it in small increments. However the flip side was a nice walk down memory lane, which is always nice. :)

Oh and for those that are going to ask, the frames are all in storage boxes. So what did you tackle this week?

Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezey

Hey you! How ya doin'? Me? I'm taking it easy, but doing OK. Thank you so much for understanding my need to postpone Un-Clutter It Thursday and for the sweet comments and emails that were sent. I shared them all with my family and you certainly brought us a ray of sunshine on a gloomy day. For now my niece is bed rest. We are hoping the contractions stop and my great-nephew will stay inside until April 24th or so.

To divert my attention I decided to work on quick project to link up to the Mission Possible: It's A Cinch with the ladies.

Mission? Floating Frame.
Possible? Oh yeah!

Materials:
 - Antique Frame... Check
 - Smaller Frame... Check
 - Fishing Line... Check
 - Staple gun... and Check!

Price? Just 10 minutes of my time.

Lets do this!

Initially I put a staple on the back top and bottom of the antique frame and tied the fishing line to it.

Then tied the line to the smaller frame.

But then I made the project even simpler and just stapled the line to the frame. Duh, Iesha! And that's all! (Don't worry I removed the staple and nails that are sticking out.)

Pure simplicity!

And when I finally got the light right the wire is almost invisible... hence, the floating frame.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezey!

Till next time...

POSTPONED: Un-Clutter It Thursday #13

Good day all... I have to apologize, Un-Clutter It Thursday is delayed for a day or two.

I haven't had time to take pictures because my family has been on pins and needles for the last day or so... my eldest niece is preggers and recently started having contractions. Normally that would be great news, but her baby has a chromosome disorder called Trisomy 4p. With this disorder comes severe medical complications both during and post delivery. Add to that, the fact that she is not due for another five weeks... we all holding our breath, hoping the contractions stop.

You can read more about my niece and Trisomy 4p in this post.

I'm hoping to get Un-Clutter It Thursday going no later than Saturday morning.

Till next time...

Unplugging For The Weekend and A Feature

Hi all! Dropping in to see how your weekend went. Did ya do anything exciting? Me? Well I'm not sure that it qualifies as exciting, but it was relaxing. We (Me, Mr. UL, his brother and wife, and mother and stepfather) took a weekend trip to Angel's Camp, CA. However, when I said I would go, I didn't realize it was going to mean I had to "unplug" as well. The condo where we stayed offered a wireless connection, but it wasn't all that great. On top of that, our cell phones service was basically phone calls only. So I took a vacation from the internet and just enjoyed being with the family.

Some pictures of the sights. The drive up was breath-taking. We stopped to stretch our legs at a lookout point. It was only sprinkling at this time.

After we checked into the condo, the rest of the weekend we had a view of ... sleet, coming down in sheets... didn't know I could rhyme like that, did ya? Oh, I have mad skillz!

Boy was it cold! And wet! We didn't leave the condo until it was time to checkout and...

hit the long road home. And yes it was still raining.

When we did finally arrived back home and I had a chance to "plug-in" I found a wonderful surprise waiting for me at WhisperWood Cottage. My "lanterns" were featured.
