Un-Clutter It Thursday #9 - Pots and Pans

Good day to you and welcome to Un-Clutter It Thursday. Today I'll take you into the last few kitchen cabinets and show you a few things that were purged to make available space in the kitchen. First, I must tell you, this series has really given me the kick in the booty that I needed. My kitchen was mostly organized but the space was not being used efficiently. Why do I say that? Well for one thing, I felt the need to add this shelf over my stove.

Then I commenced to adding all of this "stuff" to it because I "needed the extra storage". What was I thinking? Doesn't this look so cluttered?!? Kinda goes against everything I'm about... ya know the whole Uncluttered Lifestyle thing.

Well let me tell you... the shelf now looks like this. (I'm still looking for the right place to put the strainers.)

Where did everything go? Did I purge all my pans? No, not everything... but I did let go of a few things. Let me tell you why its so important to periodically assess your belongings. These are appliances I haven't used in over a year. No point in keeping them, that's prime real estate they are taking up... Got-ta-go! The finishes on the pot and skillet are damaged and since it's Teflon, they have got-ta-go too!

Amazingly I was able to fit everything else into the cabinets, with room to grow. Would you like to see? (My saving grace equals shelf helpers and bakeware organizers.)

Check out the built-in slider drawer from the 1950's, perfect for the heavy cast iron skillets. I'm telling you they were ahead of their time in the 50's!

It may not seem like there's a lot in these cabinets, so for the sake of grins lets list it all, shall we...
 - 2 skillets
 - 1 wok
 - 2 saute pans
 - 1 splash guard
 - 1 pot w/strainer
 - 2 stainless steel pots
 - 1 chicken roaster
 - 1 teapot
 - 5 nesting Tupperware bowls
 - 1 Tupperware cake holder
 - 3 square Tupperware bowls
 - 7 cast iron skillets in various sizes
 - 1 cast iron pot
 - 1 cast iron muffin pan
 - 3 pie pans
 - 2 square cake pans
 - 1 bread pan
 - 1 9x13 Pyrex pan
 - 3 baking sheets
 - 1 muffin pan
 - 1 turkey roaster
 - 2 Corning baking dishes w/lids
 - 1 square Pyrex pan
 - 1 round Pyrex pan w/lid

That's 45 items in 2.5 cabinets! And the cabinets are not busting at the seams. I'm telling you, organizing tools are worth their weight in gold!

Next week, I'm kicking off the first linky party for Un-Clutter It Thursday #10! I'm excited. More details to come during the week!!!!

Where The Singer Sleeps

I guess from the title of this post you might get the notion that either I or someone in the house is a singer, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. What I'm actually referring to, is where my Singer sewing machine spends her downtime. Seeing as how I only pull her out for straight line sewing (LOL) she gets a lot of downtime. She ought to have somewhere comfy to rest, right?

In a previous post I mentioned that I store her in a vintage steamer trunk. In that same post, I mentioned that I was thinking of painting her white. Why in the world did I say that?!? I received numerous comments telling me not to paint it because the patina is gorgeous. I actually agree with you and took you advice... for now anyway and did not paint the exterior.

Buuuuut, that didn't stop me from addressing the inside. (Hey, I remembered to take a before picture!) As you can tell she was in pretty rough condition. The paper that lined the inside was gross and peeling. I really didn't want to put my Singer in there and scrape her all up. Soooo....

I transformed the inside of the trunk into this.

She's cushioned all the way around, top and bottom. It didn't bother me at all that Mr. Uncluttered said it looked like a coffin when I was making it.... nope didn't bother me at all. Because not only does it protect the sewing machine from bumps and bruises, but I can use pins on every surface!

The box I bought at Wal-Mart and the ribbons are holding the jars in place.

I think she's nice and comfy now!

Till next time!

Some Snap-shots In My Office

On Friday, I told that over the weekend I planned on receiving lessons from the hubby in photography and Photoshop. Well, let me tell you, life had a completely different plan. On Saturday one of my closest friend's husband died un-expectantly, so we spent the weekend with her. But today things calmed down a little and we were able to get a few lessons in, even though it was raining and gloomy outside.

Do you see the new item on the shelf?

What can I say? A girl likes her wine!

More vintage detail not shown before... original beadboard ceiling.

A few new items on this side of the room as well.

Added the table... its actually an old typewriter table under the skirt

Organization Personality Quiz

Did you know it was possible to have a organization personality? Well according to the Better Homes and Garden website, it is very possible. They have even created a quiz to help you figure out what personality type you are. How nice of them, right! Given the fact that this blog is called The Uncluttered Lifestyle, I felt it was my duty to take the quiz first and see what its all about.

It took a max of 5 minutes, if that. Very simple, real life scenario questions helped me get to root-a-toot-a of my personality. The survey says... The Librarian.

Interestingly enough, its basically right. But, a taskmaster??? Come on, I wouldn't say that. Even though, after looking at the definition (one that imposes a task or burdens another with labor) Mr. Uncluttered just might agree with them. I promise impose with a smile and offers of feeding him. Doesn't that count for something. OK, I digress.

After giving me a personality type, I clicked the orange "Get Guide Now" button. At once I was taken to 20 Savvy Ways to Stay Organized perfectly suited for my perfectionist personality. Each page was chock-full of labels, baskets, and bins all for my organizing delight. Much inspiration to be had.

I highly suggest you take the quiz... NOW! Oops forgive me, that was the taskmaster side coming out. I'll get it under control while you take the quiz. Come back and let me know what personality type you are. I'm curious to see if you're a taskmaster as well.

Just click to take the quiz.

Till next time!
