Planner Series Part 2 and New Planner Layout!!!!

Good day to ya! I'm back with part 2 of my planner series. This video will take you into the last three planners I use, my everyday planner, my blog planner, and spiritual planner; which is more of a journal.

Enjoy the video!

But before I let you go, I had been hinting that I was working on a new 2015 planner layout on my Instagram account and today it's finally available for download. It's just so sweet and girly, truly my favorite layout to date. Let's call it my 2015 Ribbon Planner. Starting with the month of March, since January and February are long gone, the monthly view keeps the same layout including the love quotes at the bottom. However, this planner features softer pastel colors and more "white space" than my last planner, which will save ink for those of us printing at home.

The week on two pages view has a completely different layout with the days of the week typed into multi-colored hearts. But it also featuring more "white space" for us to save ink at home. Eeek! I just love it!

Planner Series Part 1: Family Planner

Good evening everyone. I'm back this evening with a new video for you.
Since the release of my 2015 Planner, I've gotten a few requests to see how I put my printables to work in my day-to-day life.

Instead of trying to explain it through a series of photos, I figured it would be easier to record a video and take you on a tour of my planners. Yes planners, as in multiple... I actually use four of them. Again yes, you read that correctly. I use four planners, each serving a different purpose, as you will see in the videos. I had to break it up into two videos because I was being all Chatty-Kathy in the original.

Hope you enjoy!

I Have A Growing Addiction and Fitting Into A Size A5

Hello All. I'm here with a confession for you today. Yes, as the title of the post today says, I have a growing addiction. The sad part about it... I have no desire to stop the addiction. Pinterest, YouTube, and Instagram are all enabling me to feed my addiction. Now, if you follow me on Instagram, you may already know what my growing addiction is. If not, let me give you a hint.

And my last hint for you, a sneak peek at my desk.

Can you guess now? I have discovered the whole planner community and the love of decorating your planner. Let me tell you, it is so addicting. Everything is so pretty and girly and pleasing to the eye. You almost can help but to want to make your planner look pretty too. And since I create and offer printable planners on my blog, it was just a matter of time before I discovered this community.  I'm just surprised I didn't find them sooner! Why didn't you guys find me first!!!!

As I've been perusing all the pretty pictures, I've noticed that a large part of the community uses the Filofax system, specifically the A5 size. So guess what... I'm please to let you know that the 2015 Uncluttered Lifestyle Planner can now be downloaded in a compatible A5 size.

Surviving This Cold Season... And A Natural Disaster

I don't know about where you live, but here in California the cold and flu season has been a nightmare. It seems most people I know have been dealing with a fever and a nasty cough for several days. I thought I was going to make it through the season without catching anything. Buuuuuut.... Mr. UC brought the bug home and refusing to quarantine himself, spread his germs all around the house. And low and behold, it was then my turn, but I think I'm finally on the uptick.

But while I was trying to survive this little nasty bug, the mister brought home, I was also preparing for our family to survive a potential natural disaster. Living in California, there is one natural disaster that is constantly in the back of my mind... earthquakes. In the last year, California has had 6,930 earthquakes and add to it, the fact that we live in a flood zone, you can see our need to be prepared.

Let me introduce to you a little nine page handbook I created to use as a quick reference guide.

I scoured various websites to gather tidbits I thought would be helpful, because lets be honest, I'm no survival expert. Other than watching a lot of survival shows and commenting, "I would never eat that" or "Nope I'll never visit there," that's as far as my survival expertise goes. I mean seriously, there's no way I'll be in the Costa Rican jungle having to eat half of the creatures they put in their mouths. I am way to scary and way to picky for that. But alas, I do live in earthquake country and in a flood zone.

Sigh, I digress... the bottomline is, I am no expert.  I needed some help preparing this guide now so I don't have to hunt rodents in the future to survive on. Ok ok, now back to the guide.

In this handy little guide; it addresses water storage.

It addresses food storage.
It tells you how to build your own first aid kit.

It also gives suggestions on what to include in your family's survival kit.

And finally it has a checklist of everything I will include in our kit.

A few of the websites suggested creating a survival kit for your car and workplace. The truth of the matter is, you never know where you will be when disaster strikes. You could be in your car and if you live in an area where it snows there's a greater need for you to have a kit in your car.

Also, if you or a family member leaves the home for work, you should have kit at the workplace. The workplace kit should have enough in it to get you home, if you have to walk.

Lastly because many of us have furry four-legged family members, there is a survival kit list for them as well.

As soon as our kits are fully assembled I will share pics with you.

Curing The Agony of Grocery Shopping... Kinda

I recently received a question from a reader asking how I manage to not buy duplicates when I go grocery shopping. Until I received that question, it hadn’t occurred to me that I was guilty of doing that very thing on countless occasions. Then I realized I haven’t had it happen in a while… hmmm?

Picture this true-to-life scene: You walk through the door with your many bags of groceries in tow. You gingerly sit them on the counter and start unpacking them to put in their respective places. As you add the bell peppers, the cucumbers, the cheese, and a few other items to the refrigerator, you quickly realize that you could have saved your money on those items since you are fully stocked. “Oh well,” you think, “let’s load up the pantry.” Turning to the pantry you are shocked to realize that the situation is much the same in there…

Sound familiar? Well, that was often the scene in on any given Sunday in my house. There’s nothing like coming home from your weekly trip to the grocery store to discover that at least 30%-40% of what you just purchased is already in your frig or pantry. It’s extremely frustrating because not only is it a waste of money, its potentially going to be a waste of food as well.

Now the question remains, how have I rectified the problem for my household? First, I think the most important change made was to start meal planning. Planning for the week ahead not only saves me from constantly thinking about what I’m going to eat but it’s also the key to my shopping trip.  Once all the meals are planned, I write all the ingredients down on my Grocery List printable. Well, I don’t include the seasonings, unless it’s something unique I've never used before.

With my completed grocery list in tow, I make the short trek from the office to the kitchen to compare my grocery list with what’s already in the frig and freezer. If I already have something I can simply cross it off the list now and not waste my money at the store.

Next, I take stock of what’s in the pantry as well. I can once again mark off what’s on my list that I already have and I can add the staple items that we are low on.

Can you tell this was taken before my shopping trip? It’s looking kinda bare, need to fill this baby up.

Lastly, I have a chalkboard where I write down items we've run out of during the past week. I double check to make sure they made to my list as well. This hangs right across from the kitchen island so its in plain sight and easily accessible.

The whole process takes about 10-15 minutes and saves me time in the grocery store (I hate grocery shopping) and saves money, so it’s well worth it to me.

That’s all… now it’s off to the store.

Planning Ahead For A Healthy Week

Good day ladies and gents! It's Monday... boooooo. Can anyone tell me how in the world Monday came around so fast? My weekend seemed to have gone by in a blur. Oh well, its here so we better make the most of it. Go hard or go home!

The best way for me to make sure I go hard is planning out my week. I try to plan out everything down to the finest detail, whether its doing laundry or writing a blog post. That way, hopefully, nothing gets missed and I ensure I give first place to the more important things.

I normally start my planning with determining what's on the menu for the week.

On Saturday night or Sunday morning, depending upon my schedule, I plan out all the meals and snacks for the week ahead. I used to use cookbooks and occasionally the internet for planning, but since Pinterest has taken over my life I use it almost exclusively. However, I will pull out my cookbooks for recipes that I've already tried.

The overall process takes about an hour to an hour and half. The longest part of the process being coming up with the dinners for the week. Since I do the majority of the cooking and we have different eating habits I try to simplify our menus as much as possible. During the week we enjoy the same meal for breakfast and snacks. For instance I know that I have a smoothie every morning for breakfast and my first snack will be fruit with trail mix. When it comes to lunch time, I also repeat the same meal for my lunch.

You maybe wondering at this point, "Well Iesha, don't you get bored having the same thing everyday?" Here's how I combat boredom: 1. My smoothies don't not have the same fruits in them everyday. 2. The fruit I use for my snacks vary greatly. 3. I change the ingredients in my lunch salad and the dressings I use every few days. Also, personally having a simple menu helps me to stay on track, I never wonder what I'm going to eat. It helps me say no to outside temptations as well.

However, Mr. UC gets bored easily and will not eat his lunch if he repeated too often. So for him, I have a list of 10 meals to choose from and he will "enjoy" three of them twice during the week. Now dinner time is where we both get to have some fun and have our palates tantalized. I love cooking and I "cook" for one of us each night of the week. When Mr. UC is having leftovers I make a raw dinner for myself and when I am having leftovers I make dinner for him.

Now that the meal plan is complete, I can compile my shopping list. I shop every Sunday for most if not all of our food. Occasionally, I will make another trip for fresh veggies during the week.

After I complete our meal plan I move on to planning my workout for the week.

On a day to day basis, I keep track of my health in my smaller planner that I carry with me.

I have a copy of my workout plan.

I also keep a written record of what I eat each day. Its easy to snack and lose track of how many little bites you have. This way if I get tempted I hold myself accountable by writing each little bite down. It also serves as a way to track how food affects my body. If one day my joints are particularly sore I can go back in my food log and pinpoint what may be the cause. I created this page with a water tracker, I have the hardest time drinking enough water during the day now I can mark off each cup I have.

Next I use my 2015 planner and fill in my appointments for the week and we're all set to go hard!

Here are the printables I use to organize my meals and workout for the week. Hopefully you'll find them useful as well.

2015 Planner... More Free Printables

Hey peeps... I'm back to share more free printables with you from my planner.

I'm still using my Arc Planner from Staples, which I bought in 2013. I just love this planner, it has held up amazingly. Seriously, Mr. UC will confirm that I do not treat my stuff very gingerly. If I purchase an item, I expect it to be able to hold up to the impending beating that I'll inevitably put it through and let me tell you this planner has done just that.

There is one thing I changed on the planner for next year. I found that the 1" discs that come with the planner are just a little too dainty for me. (The picture below shows the original discs.)

I needed something more substantial, something with a little more girth to it. So I changed out the 1" discs for the 1.5" expansion discs, to contain all the papers that I need to include, which is going to be a lot since this is now my desk planner.

Now let's take a look at some of the printables... shall we?

Inside the planner, I have the front divided into five sections (Budget, Blog, Fitness, Meal Plan, and Notes) and behind the sections I have the my 2015 Weekly Planner.

In the Budget sections I have a monthly calendar page where I write bill name and amount due on the corresponding date. On the back of each Monthly Calendar page, I have a Notes page where I breakdown the budget for our "cash envelope" system.

The nice part about this calendar is, its a perfect match with my 2015 Weekly Planner and you can use it for anything. Also, if you print just the odd pages you will get just a 12 page monthly calendar.

After those two pages I have my Monthly Budget Page.

And finally I have my Checkbook Register. I have a page printed for each of our bank accounts and each bank account is labeled with different color washi tape.

If you would like further detail on how I set up our budget and our bill payment system just let me know. I'm happy to share what works for us.

The last section that I have is my notes sections. I am a list maker and I tend to write down random thoughts, whether its about an idea for the blog or some project that I want to work on, I am always jotting down my thoughts. So I created a notes page and filled this section with a plethora of these pages. Oh annnnd it's also available in 5.5" x 8.5".

Its my hope that you are about to put these items to use in your life just as I have.
