Motivational Monday | Slackin'

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Merry Monday mon monkeys. Mmmmm alliteration at it's finest there.

It's the start of a new week, it's the Sprinkle of Glitter blog, it's time to feel motivated. You know the drill.

For weeks I have been working on projects. My live tour begins in a matter of days, my book is released next month, two other big projects are to be launched in August and September and I'm slowly getting into a rhythm with mine and Matt's arrangements with Darcy now that he is at his new job. It's a lot.

The thing that I have let go is the house. Oh-My-God have I let it go. I'm behind on laundry, there is always a pile of dishes, post is piling in the hallway and frankly, the house would love to see a duster here and there! I keep trying to claim back the control but I fail every time and throw out all the usual excuses - I'm always away, I am exhausted after I've worked, I'd rather spend quality time with Darcy etc.

Well, this week I'm gonna stop slacking and just do it. I'm going to put my sole attention onto one room at a time and just crack on. Bit by bit I will get there. I want to live in an environment that's neat and organised and I have the power and means to do that.

Is there anything like this in your life at the moment? If there is, could this be the week that you quit slackin' and make shit happen?

Motivational Monday || Hope

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Ok, today we're gonna get real. I'm gonna swear and be blunt and brutal. If you came here for your usual dose of sweet and floral (which is totally my normal vibe), today isn't gonna be your cup of tea.

This weekend has been totally shit. Utter, utter, complete shit.

On Friday I started suffering with a toothache. It came on suddenly and sharply and I took tablets for it. I have a huge fear of the dentist. My dentist is actually the kindest man ever and has been taking care of me since I was 4 years old but oh man do I have a fear of dental stuff.

My plan was to take painkillers until I could book an appointment on Tuesday and then see about a filling or whatever I needed. The pain increased. I started taking more tablets to try and numb the pain and I didn't listen when friends told me not to take too many.

By Saturday I had tummy ache (probably because I had taken more than the recommended dosage) and couldn't face any breakfast because my tooth hurt to eat. I was booked to talk at BeautyConLondon and didn't want to let anyone down so I forced myself on the train and hoped I'd feel better once I got there.

I didn't. On the train I was clammy, shaky, short of breath and nauseous. I rang my Dad to ask him to come and fetch me from a train station (I just wanted to get off the train) but he refused because he thought I was just panicking and he wanted to watch a rugby match. I was pretty hurt by that. So I stayed on the train and the sickness feeling washed over me in waves. I called my friend Natalie who was meant to be meeting me at BeautyCon and she agreed to meet me at Euston.

At Euston I was a mess. By this point the panic had set in, the pain was worse and I felt very unwell indeed. BeautyCon was defo off the cards. Thank you to all the girls who filled in my slot for me, it is so appreciated.

We had to decide how I'd get home. A car was an option but trains are actually quicker and smoother out of London and since I was still at the station it made sense. I forced myself to eat and drink something, got on the train and tried to think really calming thoughts.

My tooth was agony but I was afraid to take more pills. I took 2 more. Silly. The waves of heat and breathlessness washed over again and I knew I was going to throw up. I ran into the little loo and was very, very sick. Before I'd managed to press the button to shut the door. Hooray. People saw. Lovely.

One girl was so kind to me and also told me she was a viewer so if you are the blonde lady who chatted to me afterwards- thank you. It was really comforting to have someone to speak with.

I got home and my sister came round. She tucked me in bed and I laid crying/watching Netflix and drifting in and out of sleep. By Sunday morning I couldn't handle it anymore and rang round trying to find an emergency dentist.

By some miracle, my Auntie got hold of my usual dentist and he agreed to see me. I've never been more thankful for anything in all my life. At 3pm he removed the tooth and I went home.

It's 11pm now and it still hurts. It was a bit of a beast to remove so my face feels very bashed up and because of the nature of the infection, my socket (ew) hurts too.

The thing I think that has effected me the most this weekend is how alone I have and haven't felt.

For all of my adult life I've been in a team. The 'Matt & Lou' team. It was good for a long time and then bad for quite a while too. It's best that we're not in that team anymore but in times of sickness, the team was a good thing. I was very afraid to not be in that team this weekend and not have my trusty support.

I realised this weekend that I have a new team. My Manager Maddie and Producer Natalie go above and beyond what they have to do for their jobs and I feel like they really truly care. My little sister stayed in my house and watched TV alone downstairs whilst I was so poorly up here and my Auntie dropped her day to take me to the dentist and care for me. Also, my Dad cares too - when the rugby isn't on ;).

It's been scary this weekend. I haven't dealt with trauma like this alone before and I thought that without my old team it would be horrific. Well, it was horrific but I found my new team and I'm so glad about that.

I hope that every time a life hurdle crops up that I will find new teams or be able to lean on this one. It brings me such comfort to know that people care about me. I hope that if they ever need me, they'll turn to me and I'll be able to help them too.

When things like this happen, when you have to face fears, it's frightening and really shakes you up. I hope that as I go into this week I can focus on the positives- that I did it, that I have good people and that I am always well supported.

Thank you so much to everyone who left sweet Facebook messages or tweets, your love was very much felt.

I hope you have a good week and that you feel no fear for the challenges you face in it.

Motivational Monday || Self Care in Dating

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

It's Monday. A new week, a new leaf. I'll be starting off my week in Seattle (we fly home today) so that's not a bad place to be eh?

I saw this on Pinterest and felt like it was the right thing to share this week.

I'm at a place in my life that I hadn't planned on being. I'm 30, I'm single and I'm aware of other people. Men people. Oh hai.

I keep typing and deleting things because I don't fully know where I'm going with this post. Perhaps I'll just leave it here and update you as and when. I'm facing something very new. It's exciting and a tiny bit scary but I like it.

As I go forward with my new chapter, I'm going to remind myself to always take self care, respect who I am and be my best Louise, no matter what.

I hope that if you are in the same boat as me, you will join me in those things and that we will find most lovely Kings to treat us like Queens.

Motivational Monday || Beauty

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

It's Monday, the start of a brand new week and a chance to set things straight and be passionate and productive. Hurrah!

I've been thinking lately about what makes a person beautiful.

I spend a LOT of time obsessing over beauty. I love beauty products, I make beauty videos, a lot of my friends are beauty bloggers & vloggers, I scroll through beautiful images on instagram, I look for the beauty in each day and, like a lot of women, I think about my own beauty.

There are things about myself that I love and I'm glad I have but there are also things I don't like. I have naturally very flushed cheeks, I'm a bit squidgy-fatty and frankly, I'd like to be a bit shorter. We all have a list of things that we think lessen us or that we view as defects.

For many years I've been the 'fake it til you make it gal', who would focus on the good and ignore the bad, leaving me feeling good and confident. Except, when you peal away the bravado, those insecurities are still there.

As I edited my vlog footage from New York, all too many times I noticed things I didn't like about myself. There is a bit where I'm surprised with a helicopter ride and as I put my hands over my face in shock, my neck and cheek look really red and fat. That's what I noticed. I wasn't seeing the beauty in the amazing gift or the joy of the surprise, but the colour and size of a small portion of my face. I felt they were ugly.

I've thought about that clip a lot. I've thought about the people that were with me. My manager Maddie who looks after me above and beyond the parameters of her job, my friends Alfie and Joe who feel like family and my friend Drew who was just so excited for the surprise. Those people didn't look at me and think my rosey cheek was gross. They didn't even see a rosey cheek, they just saw a Louise being happy. And when you really think about it, what's more beautiful than just being happy? Nothing.

The point I'm making is, all those things you think are ugly, just aren't. Yes focus on the good and ignore the 'bad', but also, accept that the 'bad' isn't 'bad'. Accept that you are scrutinising it far more than anyone else is and that most people don't see you as a collection of features but as a person that they love or like or find fun or interesting.

You are a person and that alone is enough to be classed as beautiful.

Motivational Monday || Chances

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

If you're in the UK, Merry Bank Holiday Monday to you- no work, woohoo!! If you're somewhere else, regular Merry Monday to you!

This week's Motivational Monday is a follow up on last week's (here), where I talked about letting go of control and allowing other people in.

So, it's one week later and I'm home from my New York Adventures and, crazytowns, I had the best week. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say perhaps the best week I've had in years. I was completely out of my comfort zone, had no sense of bearings, my schedule was totally in the hands of Drew and Maddie and I did things I would never have done if I hadn't just let go of control. I'm not sure I could do that all the time, but for those three days, I'm glad I took a chance on the notion.

I vlogged all the fun for my Sprinkle of Chatter youtube channel so I won't go into too many details but I'll give you the emotional roller coaster here (the vlogs will just be a blur of me being over happy haha). (Is there such a thing as 'over happy'??)

Before I left I very clearly said to Maddie and Drew, 'Don't tell me anything, just surprise me', which a couple of days later I lived to regret when I begged Maddie for clues and details and she wouldn't give me any.

I started to panic. What if I didn't like the surprise? What if I felt too far away from the hotel? What if I got so worked up I was sick? What if I was sick in public? What if I got lost?

To add to that underlying panic, interspersed in our little chitchats, they would say, 'More surprises planned!'. Argh!

And then, it was travelling day and I almost missed my flight. My taxi got stuck in traffic and I made it to the check in desk with only minutes to spare and a heart rate that was through the roof. In that moment I realised how fearful I was that I would miss the flight, miss the trip and miss the surprises and loveliness. On the plane I had a chat with myself (in my head, otherwise that would have looked reeeaalllyyy weird to other passengers) and reminded myself that sometimes in life you have to take chances. At the time they can feel really scary or you can be unsure if they are the right choices to make but that's the thing about chances, you don't know how it will work out, it's a risk. Taking risks is brave. They say, 'fortune favours the brave'. Do it.

The week was a whirlwind. It wasn't just the one surprise, it was multiple. Some of them were work related goodies and a couple were just sweet birthday things. If I had not taken the chance on letting go of control, I would have regretted it and I would never have allowed myself those lovely experiences.

Sometimes, doing a really new or uncomfortable thing is actually the key to having a really amazing thing. I realise 'letting someone surprise me for my birthday', isn't quite the same as, 'quitting your job and following your dreams' or something of that ilk, but to me, it was a biggie.

This year I'm going to take more chances. I'm going to be braver. I'm going to let myself enjoy life a little bit more.

Sometimes those chances will end in failures and sometimes I'll get hurt but I'm ready for that. I think the good will outweigh the bad and I'm excited for it.

Will you join me? Will you allow more chances into you life? Are you already that person? Tell us about it in the comments.

Motivational Monday || Control

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Merry Monday! As this post publishes I will be on my way to the airport to attend a Google event in New York City. Oh my I feel flashy writing that!!

I'm going to New York (for a Google event) with a mixture of fear and excitement. I've been to the Big Apple twice before. The first time was fine, very fast, not really a moment to stop and see anything and the second time was frankly, a disaster. I found the entire trip overwhelming and felt very much like I was on my own, even though I was surrounded by friends. I ended up throwing up and spending the rest of the day feeling very, very shaky. I talked about it here

(Image)

For a good few weeks I told everyone I would never go back to New York and that it was awful. So, with that in mind, what I'm about to say is going to sound entirely cray cray. Are you braced?

I'm letting my friend plan a surprise for me in New York. I'm giving someone else complete control whilst I'm in a place that is so far out of my comfort zone I don't even know if I won't vomit. And I like it.

Say whaaaattt??

Yep.

So, story time,  I hosted my American pal Drew last weekend whilst he was over on business and made sure to show him the most Englishy things I could think of (cream tea, the country side, rickety old pubs etc) and then it turned out that since we would both be in New York at the same time AND it will be my birthday, he would show me some nice places on his side of the ocean. Neat huh? In a fit of madness I said, 'Don't tell me anything, surprise me!'. I don't know why I decided to do that, I usually hate surprises, but this is my year to be brave and push the boundaries of my comfort zones somewhat.

And there we have it. Only him and my Manager Maddie (who is like an extension of my brain so I know she won't let me go too wrong) know what I'm doing in my free time this week and I'm just letting it happen.

It's REALLY scary not having control but I tell you what, it's REALLY liberating once you tell yourself to let go. My advice for you this week is to let yourself let go just the tiniest bit. If you're like me and you like to have 1000% say over everything, this will be a tricky concept but I think if you can even loosen the grip 1%, you will feel joyful for it.

I know there is a risk that I won't like something or I will freak out in the new environment but I also know that I'm smart enough to solve most problems and have enough cash to jump in a cab back to my hotel at any point.

I hope you will join me this week in letting go of things just the teeniest weeniest bit and that next week we can catch up. I'll tell you the surprise and you tell me what you did to allow control out, and joy in to you lives.

I'm excited!! Are you?

Motivational Monday || Jealousy

Aloha Sprinkerinos,

It is Monday. A fresh start, a new chance. All those things you messed up last week? Don't worry about them, you have another shot doing things better and I know you will.

Today's image from Pinterest was chosen because it's something I remind myself of allll thhhee timmme!!! Lately I've found I remind myself less and I think it could be because it's finally sunk in. Woohoo for positive reinforcements!

I think that we as women (and hello men if you are reading too) are naturally conditioned to compete with each other. One of my earliest memories is being told by a teacher to, 'sit nicely like Natalie' and suddenly I thought, 'Natalie sits better than I do, Natalie is better than me'. It stuck. When you look, there are SO many moments in our lives when we compare ourselves to other people and feel less.

We don't need to do this. Just because someone is doing well, doesn't mean you are doing badly. If your friend gets a promotion at work which includes and increased salary, yours isn't going to be decreased. You didn't do badly, she just had a success and soon it will be your turn for a success as well.

This week, if you know someone that has good news or does really well at something, be happy for them. It's not a reflection on you and if you work hard, you'll be having people be happy for you too. Don't begrudge or resent, share in their joy and spread even more positivity around your world.

Motivational Monday || Love

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Merry Monday to you! I hope you are feeling positive for the week and looking forward to a fresh start and a new chance to achieve all your goals.

I chose today's motivation after I was inspired by something that happened in church last week. I know religion isn't everyones cup of tea so apologies if this is a bother to you. I'm never preaching, only sharing my own experiences. I was sat in our service and our vicar was talking about how God loves every one of us. This is something I've heard before and often felt to be quite a sweeping statement. How can anything love 7 billion people all at once? That's a LOT. Our vicar went on to say that God says he knew each of us when were were in the womb and has a plan for all of us, that he cares and loves about us all as individuals and a collective.

I don't know if it was the happy feeling I had from the sunny weather or something more special but in that moment, I just felt very loved. I felt very secured and very content with everything. It was a very snuggly sort of peace that washed over me, just because someone told me I was loved.

I tell my little girl I love her about a thousand times a day but sometimes as an adult, you aren't told you are loved often enough. I think I needed telling.

So this is me, telling you, I love you. I'm not God (if I was this blog would be a LOT better!) and I didn't know you in your Mother's womb (that would be really effing creepy of me), but whoever you are, I'm sending you a little chunk of love and warmth from my heart to yours. I am fairly sure that it's a good sort who read this blog and I so often feel your love and support that I wanted to reinforce that I am always, always sending it back out to you too.

I hope you have a fantastic week and that you continue to feel motivated and happy each day through it.

Motivational Monday || Happy

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Merry Monday to you. It's been a big few weeks round here with projects being finalised, birthdays and trips to London, but I thought I would get back to normality with a Motivational Monday.

I have spent a big portion of this last year regularly reminding myself of all the things I'm happy about and finding that it really truly does boost the spirits.

This Monday I am happy for -

How docile my kitties are. Not once have they bitten or scratched us.
The work I have been getting done lately and how good I feel for it.
Darcy's excellent behaviour. She is such a sweet girl.
How wonderful the Sprinklerino community have been this past few weeks.
Chocolate Easter Eggs- need I say more??
Finding makeup you forgot you had.
Being sucked into new Netflix series. (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt!)
Handbags that never get scuffed.
Spring fashion. Floral, floral, floral!
Waking up early and feeling smug that you can get ahead.
Long bubble baths with Lush products.
Green thai curry with brown rice from Pod.
Phone calls with my girl friends.
Cocktails with lychee flavours in them. MmmmMmm.
Discovering new blogs that you love and back reading every post.
Going outside and feeling the sunshine on your skin.

If you have the Monday grumps, take a moment to write a list of all the things that make you happy at the moment. I guarantee it will lift your mood and give you that extra pep in your step to get you through the day!!

Motivational Monday | Being Pretty

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Merry Monday to you! The start of a new week and a chance to leave the mistakes of last behind you and to make efforts and amends to do better with this one. What a lovely thought.

They say that as you approach your thirties you feel a great sense of calm and confidence. In my early and mid twenties I laughed at this and thought it was one of those things they say to comfort you re: ageing but lately though, I've noticed an unexpected shift in the way I view myself and I kind of like it.

In the past, I've been my own harshest critic. I've seen pictures of myself that other people have described as beautiful and thought, 'Urgh, I look vile'. I have picked apart the tiniest details of myself. I've untagged myself in things because my eyes weren't open wide enough or my arm looked squishy. Seriously, ridiculous little things.

When Jack made my edit of the the Winter Lookbook, I didn't ask for a single change. There are bits of it that I mentally flagged to myself, but then I thought, 'that's just my face', or, 'that's just what my body looks like when it jumps off a tractor' and felt alright really. It's marvellous what rational acceptance can do for a girl.

When you think of the 7 billion people on the planet and all their blemishes or wrinkles or squashy bits or cellulite, you quickly realise you're fine. Your body is just one in 7 billion. You aren't unpleasant or ugly and you don't stand out in any negative fashion, you're just one of the crowd. I find that so comforting.

I've always been generally confident with my appearance but lately I have felt a great sense of calm over the matter. I look at my face and see all the things I didn't love before (laughter lines, always slightly uneven eyebrows, super rosy cheeks) and just think, 'Hello little bits of me'. As I feel calmer, I feel happier. As I feel happier, I think I look better. As I look better, I feel more confident. See what's happening? A very positive cycle of loveliness. (Even if it is slightly superficial).

For this week's homework I would urge you to look in the mirror or at a photo of yourself. Take note of all your bibbits and bobbits and have a good think. Are they really an issue or are they just little bits of yourself that do no harm and are what make you unique?

When I think about all the most beautiful people in my life (My Mama in Heaven, my little girl, my friend Marie), I don't even for a nanosecond think about frizzy hair or blemished skin or wobbly thighs, their beauty just shines out and captivates me. Let yours do the same.

Motivational Monday || Magic

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Did you have a good weekend? I hope that if you did, the positivity has carried through into the start of a new week.

I chose this one today because it seems to fit nicely with a couple big things I have been thinking about a lot lately, the first being God and the second being Disney World.

I know, an odd mix but still with something in common. Both God and Disney put a great focus on belief. To be clear to anyone wondering, I am not bunching to two together and show both topic the appropriate respect in my thoughts, it's just hard to always convey that via text and screens.

As a Christian, I have a strong belief that there is a God and he is the Father of Jesus and he holds our lives in his hands and is there to guide, love, support and teach us. The majority of my friends are not Christians (or any other religion) and so many times I have found myself in conversations where I am put to the test, don't have the answers and simply respond with, 'because I believe it'. It's hard to explain how or why I believe in God but sometimes I say this-

"When Darcy couldn't talk and was a little baby, I knew in my heart that she loved me. She didn't say it outloud and she didn't do anything grand to show me, but I had such belief that she did, that I knew. That's how I feel about God. I just believe it so deeply that I know."

Believing in God brings me more peace than I could ever write in a blogpost. I am not scared of my life or of the future and I am not scared of what comes after. Sure, I fret and worry about the little things, but when I really think on it, I remember that my life is just part of God's plan and all I need to do is follow that and I'll be fine. A lot of people may think this is stupid but I don't feel embarrassed or ashamed, I feel soothed.

And now Disney. Walt Disney World is my favourite place on earth. I'm the kind of woman who cries at the parades, skips down Main Street and almost floats through the day because to me, it's all just so magical. I believe in the magic. Yes, you could argue that it is all carefully designed to make you feel that way, but I'm fine with that. You wanna design a place that is a delight to be in, smells incredible, looks fantastic, sounds amazing and is made purely to please, go right ahead, I'm happy to be a part of that. Rather than questioning the mechanics of the operation, I am glad to look upon it as magic and enjoy every moment I can.

The point I am making is this- If you want to pick apart every single thing to see how it works or to question why or to know every little detail, sure, go ahead. Sometimes though (and not for everything but just some special things), don't. Sometimes when you don't look for it, it's just there, waiting to be enjoyed or loved or soothed by. Let yourself go with something and enjoy the magic of it. It's really, really nice.

Next time you feel like something lovely is happening and you want to enjoy it, just enjoy it. Choosing to believe in something does not make you dumb or weak, it shows strength that you can allow yourself to do that and have the faith to be able to.

Toodlepip!

xx

(Disclaimer - I know religion is a sensitive topic and I always worry that my opinions are in some way offensive. Please don't pick me apart (haha kinda the lesson of the day) or be mean about them, I won't respond or engage. I'm not saying God is 'magic', I'm saying more that he is 'miraculous'. Cool <3 font="">

Motivational Monday || Head Space

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Woohoooo another Monday and another chance to try hard, work hard and reach your goals and targets. What's not to be excited about here? I jest, I know not everyone is a Monday person haha.

I don't know about you but I'm an over thinker. I am constantly busy thinking about people or things or events or conversations or arguments or projects or trips - it's EXHAUSTING!!

Last year I poured myself into everything. Every single thing. I feel like I gave so much to so much that I never had any left. I'm not talking financially but emotionally. Sometimes it's worthwhile taking stock and holding back a little bit, reassessing where all your energies are going and re-distributing.

Last week a couple of things happened which really made me think. I wondered if I have made the right choices with people or projects and poured my time and love into the right things. I felt frustrated and wound up. I think I might not be describing it well but that's because I am still a bit confused and het up myself. I haven't ironed it all out in my head yet but when I do, I'll try and explain it better.

Until that point, and who knows how long it will take, I have come to a decision.

I am going to give myself and my love and my time and my energies to only the people and projects I think are worthy. Worthiness can come in multifaceted manners but mostly, if you are kind to me, care about me and are a good egg yourself, you're in! Pretty simple! Bonus points if we can laugh, sing and adventure together too! Project-wise, I've already chosen what things I will be working on for the first half of the year so that's an easier choice.

Life is short and energy is precious. Don't waste it on the people who do not appreciate or reciprocate. There is no need to continuously work at something that doesn't work. Sometimes the best thing you can do is stop, smile and leave it.

I'm not suggesting you be a massive d*ckhead to everyone you don't quite like or feel hard done by, just that if you want or need to, walk away from it. Still be gracious and kind and pleasant (all energy neutral emotions) but no need to go full blast at things or people that don't deserve it.

I hope you all have wonderful weeks full of peace, motivation and happiness! I have posts today, Wednesday and Friday.

Motivational Monday || Adventure

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Merry Monday to you. A new week, a new month, a new year- a triple whammy today. Much excite!

Today had no choice other than to be about new starts.

I am always optimistic at the start of the year. I feel like the air changes and there is a very tangible sense of change for the better. People cast away the sorrows or hardships of the past 12 months and try again. For me, it's a little bit magical.

I spoke last week about all of my resolutions and how excited I am but I would like this week for you to take a moment to think about what you want out of this year. You don't need to write it down or share it with anyone, just take a couple of minutes out of your day to focus on exactly what you want.

Is it to spend more quality time with people? Gain qualifications? Save up? Travel somewhere? Add to your family? Whatever it is, think about it, visualise and commit to yourself that you are going to work towards it. If you want it hard enough, you'll find a way to make it happen.

I have great faith it in you and so do all your Sprinklerino family. If you'd like to share, feel free in the comments. Also, don't forget to support each other in the comments too. It can really make all the difference to someone's day.

Motivational Monday || Fight or Flight

Aloha Sprinkerinos,

Merry Monday to you! Not only a new Monday but a new month. Merry Month to you? Heh heh.

Today's Motivational Monday will be a little different to the usual, it's a really personal tale of triumph but hopefully one you can take elements from and incorporate them into your own life.

A couple of weeks back I wrote THIS post about comfort zones and feeling super unsettled in new places. I was blown away by your responses to that and amazed at how many of your feel the same way. For the longest time I have not vocalised my feelings about new places because I felt a bit silly or like if I didn't think or talk about them then they wouldn't be real and I could quietly overcome them.

I am slowly realising that by being more open, I can accept it more and will find ways to deal with it better. The most crucial thing to me is that this doesn't get worse. I'm not looking for miracles, I would just like to be able to go on trips without feeling anything more than a standard amount of fear, as opposed to an irrational amount. I'd like to not say, 'Will you though? Will you actually? Will you definitely?' to someone when they say, 'You go down and get in the taxi, I'll be there in 5 minutes'. That actually did happen this weekend. Grr.

So, last weekend I jetted off to New Jersey to attend the Playlist Live Tri-State conference. We stayed in a Hilton which was great because I stay in those a lot and felt really secure and familiar there and Dean was in the room across the hall so I felt nice about that.

Usually when I travel for these work things, a big group of my friends go as well as either my Manager or Producer. With those people I feel somewhat cocooned in a safety net but this time I only flew out with Jack and Dean and felt a little vulnerable. Don't get me wrong, they are the greatest. Jack is one of my absolute best friends and Dean is someone who after this weekend I feel truly bonded with but none the less, I was nervous and on edge.

The flight was great, lots of lols and a tiny bit of sleep (after an initial cry at the airport because I just anticipated all the worst things) but by the time we were at Newark, I was feeling the fear. I don't know what it is. I just detest being in environments where I can't seem to latch onto anything familiar. I kind of need that anchor. Even silly things like if I see a Starbucks makes me feel good because I know where I am with that, I know what it is and what's inside and how it will be and so can relax.

We arrived at the hotel late so there really wasn't an evening and everything began the next day.

We headed into New York City with some of Jack's American friends (who were so lovely- big cuddles to Amber and Dom) and I immediately didn't feel great. I've been to New York once before and I think because I was with Matt and we only did little outings for just a couple of hours at a time it was a lot less heavy.

Everything was like an attack on my senses. We had to walk fast, dodge people, keep up convo, be freezing, smell weird street food stuff, look everywhere, everything was loud, etc etc. It was a LOT. We ate and then went to Times Square and at this point I knew I was really struggling. Whilst everyone was having a great time I tried to remind myself that it's just 'big London' and that it was all mind over matter.

Eventually matter won over mind and I felt way too hot, I couldn't catch my breath, I wanted to jump in a taxi and zoom away but instead I darted into a bar and threw up (in the loos, not just over the drinks dispensers haha). Not good.

That was the point I wanted to throw the towel in and grab a cab back to the hotel. I was a teary mess and felt like the city was this big bad force that was going to swallow me up and I was drowning.

After a big glass of ice water and very soothing words from Jack (who was just perfection about the entire thing), I decided to stay.

Long story short, I had one of the best afternoons I've had in years. I have a lot of good afternoons so this is really saying something. We went ice skating, had hot chocolates (well, I watched the gang have hot chocolates for fear of being ill again), looked in shop windows and laughed and chatted and oh me oh my it was so magical.

If I hadn't have forced myself to do it (or Jack hadn't have helped me I should say), I wouldn't have had that. It was scary and horrible and I cried and wanted to hide away but I stayed in the situation and (ungracefully) triumphed. I'm glad about that.

When the innate 'flight or fight' instinct kicks in, my body always opts for 'flight' and to run to safety. This weekend (lots of other things have led me to this conclusion but there are too many to write about) I found myself taking the 'fight' option on numerous occasions and I'm really pleased.

If you do have the chance to make that choice, try 'fight'. Right now, it doesn't feel as good as 'flight' but I know if I keep doing it, it will.

I'm going to keep being vocal about this issue and keep updating you on progress (or set backs) because it feels healing and that's nice.

Let me know in the comments if you have ever felt this way or if you have any similar stories.

Thank you for always being such loves on this blog, it is never un-noticed and always appreciated.

Motivational Monday || Letting Go

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Merry Monday to you my little puffballs. Ooof the festive spirit is upon me. If I could call you candycansugarsnaptwinklelightpuffballs I would. Oh wait.

Today's motivation is a bitter sweet but positive one.

Sometimes, the very best thing you can do is let go. A scary, scary concept.

I'm the kind of woman who likes to have her shiz together at all times, micro manage everything and everyone and keep all the balls in the air (ooer).

Recently it dawned on me that in certain areas of my life, I. Just. Can't. I can't keep everything contained and perfect. I can't control other people. I can't make every single thing be exactly what I want it to be and by trying I only upset, hurt and frustrate myself.

What's the point? Surely there are other precious areas of life you could focus your valuable energy on?

This week I decided to fully, fully let go of something. It's not a major thing but a thing none the less and I tell you what, I feel so good for it. I actually feel more in control for letting go of trying to control it. How crazy is that?

I know how frightening it can be to consider letting go of something. I know it can feel like if you let go you won't ever be able to pick it up again or that you won't be able to manage but, I think you will. Give it a try. If you are worried, just let go a tiny bit and see how you feel. Baby steps.

Apologies if this all sounds very mysterious and dramatic, it's not, I just think some things are better left unsaid.

What will you be letting go of this week?

Motivational Monday || Courage

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Merry Monday! A fresh week, a fresh start! Today I will be walking the red carpet for the Hunger Games movie premiere and I am beside myself with excitement- squuee!!

Today's topic is courage.

I don't always feel very brave, in fact, quite the opposite. I often need a lot of help from those closest to me. I lean on my loved ones a lot for reassurance and seek a lorra lorra comfort in them. Last week I opened up in a blog post about my fear of being out of my comfort zone and I felt brave for saying it.

Since I don't do a great many courageous things, I can't talk too much about it but this week I would like to encourage you to do something a little bit brave. Nothing major (unless you absolutely want to) but just a little tiny something. If it doesn't go well, try again. That's the bravest thing of all.

Wishing you all the most wonderful, courageous week and sending you big cuddles and sparkles.

Motivational Monday || Fresh Starts

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

A new week and a new month, how refreshing. I like the start of new things. They give me hope that this time I can do better than the last and the motivation to try.

I thought this doodle was particularly apt for the new day, week, month and hoped it would bring you a little bit of invigoration to get going.

It's quite easy, I find, to be pulled down by the daily grind or by our personal problems or even by other people's personal problems. It can feel like wading through treacle and like there is no end in sight. I try really hard to divide my time and life by the months and have them be like chapters of a book. That way, if one month has been particularly hard, you can sort of draw a line under it and start afresh in the new one.

My October was busy and challenging but also rewarding. I don't want to draw a line under it and forget it, but more draw a line and start again with renewed energy. I want to take a moment to think about my goals for this month (more time at home, more photography, more time with Darcy) and not focus on how much I was away in October and how much focus I had to put on things that ultimately, were not the 'real' stuff of life.

If October was a big month for you (for good or for bad), take a quiet moment today to think about what you want from this new chapter and to breath deep, sit still and re-energise. It's going to be a good one!

If you'd like to share in the comments what you want to do in this new month, please do! If you'd prefer to keep that as a mental note- I feel ya!

Motivational Monday || Goals

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Merry Monday! How was your weekend? Refreshing I hope. Let's look toward the new week with positivity.

I saw this quote and it struck a chord with me. I spend a lot of time making plans and mapping out things I want to do. A lot of the time I actually see them through but of course there are still those things that continue to linger on the 'to-do' list.

This week I want to spend some proper time thinking about what I want to achieve (for example, I want to photograph all my favourite little streets in London with my big girl camera, I want to take time to visit my friend Faye in Yorkshire, I want to book a massage etc), set some time targets and do them!

It would be unrealistic to manage all of those in one week but my goal is to have them thought about properly and maybe booked in.

Is there anything in your life that you have been meaning to do but never have? Take this opportunity to make a note of them. Make a note and have a think about what steps you could take to make those plans a reality.

Your life will carry on plodding no matter what you do with it. You may as well fill it with happies, huh?

I'm off to google spas within a 10 mile radius!

Honesty || Motivational Monday

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Merry Monday my little glitterballs. Did you have a good weekend? Did you spend any time last week working on seeing the good in bad? I did.

This week we are talking about honesty.

Image from Pinterest.

Honesty is a funny one.

I would describe myself as fairy honest but really, am I? Is anyone? We all know the basics- don't tell lies, don't steal, don't cheat, but what about- say how you feel, accept your own feelings, go with your heart?

The latter are the hard ones. It's a fine line to walk between keeping something in because you are protecting someone (maybe yourself) and just saying what's on your mind and damn the consequences.

I am a worrier. A people worrier to be precise. I worry that I will upset, anger or offend and so keep thoughts, feelings and concerns to myself. Sometimes this works well because I avoid a whole heap o' drama, but sometimes I just end up hurt or confused.

I didn't mean to be honest this week but I was. I had several encounters with people where I just thought, (and do excuse my language), 'fuck it, I'm not playing games with anyone, least of all myself'.

It. Was. Great.

Well, some of it was haha. Some of it ended in tears, some of it ended in a slight red face, some of it ended in a really happy face and some of it ended in ease.

Regardless of the varied results, I'm really glad. I feel secure and content. I've had a lot of confusion in my life for the past few months and haven't enjoyed endless guessing games and communication breakdowns. They suck. Even if you don't get the answer you want, at least you know it's the honest answer and you can't really ask for more than that. And, sometimes, it goes pretty well!

This week I urge you to be honest. Mostly with yourself. Is there anything in your life that is confusing or could become confusing? Take a step to add more honesty to the situation and see how you feel. Be realistic and be prepared to accept the consequences but have the strength to do it.

You don't have to go gaga and declare your undying love for the guy in accounts, but maybe invite him out for a coffee. What have you got to loose? Dignity always grows back with time ;)

Good luck on your quests, let me know in the comments how it goes or if you have any examples of doing this before!

Good In Bad || Motivational Monday

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

As I type this, I have a Zula licking the inside of my elbow (VERY weird sensation) and a Rocket trying to sit on my boobies. I do love these kittens so but they certainly pick their moments.

Today's Motivation Monday is about finding the good in bad situations.

Looking for the positives in a negative situation, I think, is one of the quickest ways to get over something and the easiest way to feel re-motivated to carry on with life. It might seem quite twee and do-gooder-y but have faith, it works.

I don't think I need to explain this too much as you are all smart Sprinklerinos but basically, if a bad thing happens (no matter how big or small), try to take something good from it. The good thing doesn't have to outweigh the bad (often it can't), but it just has to be there. One little thing that you can say, 'well at least blah blah blah'.

For example, whilst filming this video the other day, I dropped and smashed a brand new concealer. I was prrreeeeetttyyy pissed but immediately thought, 'Ok, well I won't buy that brand again because the tube is made of thin glass (stupid), if I do, I'll know to be a lot more careful (a lesson learnt) and at least I got two goes out of it and managed to get a shot of it on camera before it went to cosmetic heaven'. As soon as I thought all those things, I didn't feel too bad.

For all the little things that happen this week, I would like you to try and find a piece of good in them. You don't have to tell them to anyone, you don't have to write it down or make a fuss, just think it, take comfort and move on.

Also, how did you get on from last week's homework which was behaving well even when people don't show you the same grace?
