Autumn Activities

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Oh yeah, I'm getting Autumnal up in yo' faces again. I just can't help myself.

With a serious lust for the golden leafed season, I took to Pinterest to find inspiration for sweet and easy little projects that I can do by myself or with my Baby Glitter to bring a bit more Autumn into the home.

If you would like to see the original articles that all of these images came from, HERE is the link to the board and you can go show them some luurrvvvee. Oh I'm feeling sassy today!

I would never have thought to put leaves in vases the way you do flowers but set against the blue, this is a gorgeous look. As luck would have it, I have some blue glassware so I'm excited to collect my foliage! (Did I just say 'foliage'?)

Easy and cheerful. Matt and Darcy will both love this. Use a sharpie to ensure the pen marks don't smudge off.

I am a chronic glass jar saver so I know what I'm going to do with them this week!

I love alternatives to carving pumpkins as I simply cannot deal with the mess and smell -urgh. This idea is super cute, easy and appeals to the crafty Mama. It's also something the tiniest of hands can get involved in.

I'm not a big caramel fan but I'm going to use this as inspiration and find something to put in hollowed out apples to dip. I'm thinking maybe peanut butter?

Darcy would absolutely love this and it would be so easy to make. Not only would it be fun for her but it would also open up opportunities to learn new vocabulary and experience new textures.

If I give some of these a go I will be sure to report back on how well they went. Would you be interested in trying any of these out? What kind of things do you do project-wise at this time of year?

Motivational Monday #11

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Since I started this feature, I have had so many messages saying how much you enjoy it so to those of you who have gotten in touch- thank you, I'm glad to see positivity multiply.

And again, Happy Monday to you all. Monday's are not a day to dread but a day to embrace as they are the start of something new and a chance to wipe the slate clean and try again.

Motivational Monday
Today's Motivational Monday (taken from HERE) is one that rings very very true with my personality type.

Sometimes in life, a situation is thrown up at us that invokes immediate emotions and makes us want to share how we feel straight away. A colleague at work could bait you with a derogatory comment or a friend might say something that really riles you. It is natural to want to respond in kind and let them know how you feel.

It would be fair to say that in some circumstances that would be the right action. It would also be pretty fair to say that in a lot of cases, it's not the most efficient. To clarify 'efficient', I mean that it's not always the quickest way to a solution and it's not always the most gentle way either. I believe in gentle.

Throughout my life (just like you), I've had situations where I have wanted to scream at somebody or I have had someone do something crappy etc. Over time I have developed a bit of a coping mechanism. Do nothing for at least an hour. Unless it's like a life or death grab-someones-hand-before-they-fall-off-the-cliff dealio (which with my weak arms I'd be rubbish at anyway), there is no need to go all guns blazing into something. Take a moment, gather your thoughts, weigh up your options ad consider the consequences. Will you feel so angry tomorrow? Will the anger just throw up a new problem (name calling and swearing are not easily forgotten)? Is there anyone you could talk this through with before you get all-up-in-their-grill? (I'm so down with the lingo).

What I'm saying today is, if this week you find yourself in a stressful situation, take a tiny bit of time to move away from it, assess it and then react. You don't need to do it instantly. More often than not, by giving yourself that space, you will make a much better reaction and the situation will run a lot more smoothly, resulting is a happier life for you. And we all want happy, right?

Is this something you might try this week? If you do give it a whirl, come and tell me in the comments if it worked!

Motivational Monday #10

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

We're at number 10 of this series! Yay! I think this is the longest I've ever stuck at a regular feature so big fist pumps from me.

As always, a great big Happy Monday. I hope this week is going to be brilliant for you all. You deserve it.

Motivational Monday

This quote from Pinterest (originally from Little Women I believe) has really struck a cord with me.

Last week Matt was away on a business trip, as was my Dad. The most important men in my life and most prominent support network folk were out of the country. I was alone. For the everyday task, this is no big deal. But when a truck smashed into my parked car (Darcy and I were inside thankfully and the truck driver was fine), I realised I had to deal with this myself.

I know to a lot of people this is just a simple task of swapping details and making the calls but to me this was a big hurdle. I never do this kind of thing. I have always been looked after by my Dad and then these kind of tasks were passed onto Matt.

So, like the dingbat I am, I went out into the street, looked at my smashed up car, burst into tears, freaked out because I couldn't reach my Dad or my Matt and then dealt with it. I exchanged details with the other driver, I located the folder with our insurance paperwork in, I called the insurers, I called the police, I called the car hire people, photographed the damage and I liaised with the garage. I took down reference numbers, I confirmed security questions and I organised recovery truck pick up times. I coped. I accomplished. I was proud.

The lesson in this is a good one. Life hurdles (the storms) will happen in your life, you cannot avoid them. Do not fear them. Wait for them and be prepared. You can cope with anything and you can deal with anything. There is no need to run from things, no need to panic in the face of them. You are able. It's alright to ask for help or take a little bit of time to do things, but in the end, if you want to, you will learn how to sail your ship and you will be so proud.

It's the start of a new week so go and sail your ships and enjoy the waves, you can do it so beautifully if you try.

Have you dealt with any storms lately? Share and inspire in the comments.

Motivational Monday #8

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Something a little different today.

If you have been following this series (all previous posts linked below) you will have noted that I take inspirational words/typography from Pinterest and we have a little chat about how we can incorporate it into our own lives.

Well this week, rather than using the a pin already found, I decided to make my own. I would like to encourage you to pin it on whatever board you see fit (if you like it of course) and then we can all add to the world of inspirational words! Yay! I've made two versions so please pin the one you like best. I wonder which one will win?

Inspirational Quote

Please pin whichever quote looks most appealing to you.

Inspirational Quote

So this is a quote that I think my Dad told me when I was about 9 and struggling with my school work and it's stuck with me for nearly 20 years.

The idea is that if you carry on doing all the same things, nothing will ever change. It pushes you to try something a little different and reap the rewards of a new outcome. It's really, really easy to get stuck in a rut (believe me, I'm Mrs Rut!) and begrudge things in your life, but more often than not, it's something we can change ourselves. For example, whilst I was in Orlando, every single time I had to put swimwear on I would think, 'Urgh my thighs are so jibbly'. It's all very well thinking they're jibbly but then if I carry on just sitting about thinking it, they're not going to change. I need to do something different, like a smidge of exercise here and there!

Think about something you're not happy about in your life today. Now think about something you could do differently to help it. I'm not suggesting playing the lottery in the hope of paying off all your debts, but achievable things, like swapping a fizzy drink at lunch time for a bottle of water, or swapping  watching Hollyoaks (who watches it anyway?!?!) for 30 minutes of extra homework.

Is there anything you can do differently? Will you be pinning either of these quotes?

Motivational Monday #4

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

In life, it seems normal to spend vast amounts of time mapping out our lives and deciding on the paths we must take. I am a regular mapper myself. Do your exams, graduate, find a nice man, buy a house, get married, have a baby, check, check, check and check. Then what?

Motivational Monday | Sprinkle of Glitter blog

Sometimes we make plans for ourselves and they work like clockwork. Sometimes they fall to absolute pieces and we are beside ourselves with grief, sadness, frustration or loss. In times like this, the world can feel like it's caving in on itself and you have no options, or that the options you do have are pretty diar.

As someone who has been in situations where you feel there is no way out or where you feel you have lost your way and can't see the wood for the trees, I know how frightening and distressing that can feel. From experience, I also know that is is not necessary to feel this way. There are always other options, there are always other paths.

'Other path' absolutely does not mean 'wrong path'. It's all too easy to feel that if you change your path you are failing or making a mistake, but in actual fact you are just changing your direction but carrying on your journey, with all it's winds and twists, and that's alright.

It's OK to worry and over think which direction you should take in your life, as long as you do keep walking down your path. The only mistake would be stopping.

I hope this strikes a positive note with anyone who is feeling a bit lost or are searching for their 'Plan B'. If not, below are the rest of February's Motivational Monday's to put a bit of pep in your step.

Motivational Monday #1

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

It's Monday, you're at your office desk/reading your phone on the commute/feeding the baby/not listening in class because Sprinkle of Glitter is so thrilling (haha) and the weekend seems like a long way off.

I know the feeling. I used to go into my old office with a very heavy heart- world's biggest YAY for working from home!

To help you combat this, we're going to be a happy glitter family and stay motivated. We're going to embrace the week and all it will offer to us. It's going to be a good one, I can feel it in my waters....wherever they may be.

So, as you can see, I turned to the most motivational place on earth the internet, Pinterest.

This little slogan really struck a cord with me. There are so many huge things I want to do but often feel put off or overwhelmed by. This week, I'm going to take one of them and start at the very beginning...'it's a very good place to start'. I won't go into what it is because it's pretty personal, but I'm glad to be starting and making a dent in my journey.

The reason I'm writing this is because there might be someone else out there who has something they want to start but have previously been daunted by such a large task. If that's you, come and hold my hand and we'll do it together, as a community.

Feel free to share your big things below, whether it's exactly what you want to do and how you're going to do it, or just that you're in it with me, I'd love to hear.

Are you about to start something big?

Feel Good Friday

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

It's Frrriiiddaaayy!! The start of a weekend, the end of early starts (for some!) and one day closer to Christmas! Ooohh yyeaaahhhh!!

In order to help you unwind, clear your head and reflect on the weeks you've had, I picked out a few of my favourite inspirational typography images for you to enjoy. I really enjoyed searching through Pinterest to find these and think I might make a bit of a feature of it.

Don't forget :)

I am definitely guilty of this one. All too easily I see what other people have and get grabbygreedyguts for it. This has reminded me to look at what I do have and be jolly well glad for it.

In keeping with the first image, this has become something of a mantra to me ever since I saw it. Clever old Roosevelt.

Steve Martin

I liked this. I like the idea of being excessively good and shining. Let's all try it.

What mantras make you happy? Share them in the comments below.

LOTD || Fact or Quote #4

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

The challenge today is to share either in interesting fact or an inspiring quote and spread knowledge and cheer to all.

Friday will always be : Fact or Quote

Another Pinterest one today (no change there then).

Eyes closed
It's nothing incredibly profound but it made me smile and gives you a bit of a warm fuzzy. Also, it sort of makes me want to give Matt a bit of a closed eye smooch, haha.

I love little quips like this because they make me appreciate the little things and love life that little bit more. I think we could all do with a little more life love.

If you would like to join in, simply copy and paste the image above (please link this blog with it), find your favourite fact or quote and share it with the world. Feel free to let us know in the comments if you have done this and we can all mooch about together!

Do you have any good quotes like this?

First Etsy Sale and Bedroom Redo Plan

I'm uber excited today! I just had my first sale from my Etsy shop, Uncluttered Farmhouse. In the back of my mind I was hoping I would have a sale soon after opening, but I was trying not to get my hopes up. Less than a month after opening... whoooo hoooo! (You would have thought I won the lottery.)

Anywho, on to this week's projects. I'm working on a plan to redo our "master bedroom." In our little country home there are four bedrooms all with the exact same dimensions... small. Ok seriously, 12.3 x 10.9 = 134 square feet. I guess that's not too bad overall. But of course we have to consider the closet door and bathroom door on one wall, the entry door on another wall, and the windows with the AC on the other wall. That leaves us with one wall to work with, thank goodness its a "long" wall. Oh, did I mention that we have a California King. With the bed on the one free wall we have 33" of space on either side for a night stand.

I've exploring Pinterest for inspiration. This is what I found.

Gorgeous room. Just look at the wallpaper. Maybe that's what I need...?

How can you go wrong with Sarah Richardson? I mean she was designing a farmhouse.

Dear goodness! Words escape me!

That's just a few for now, but plenty of inspiration. Till next time.
